My Coffee Table arrived! Thanks Life Interiors!

I ordered the most gorgeous Coffee Table from Life Interiors on-line.  I originally saw this coffee table at a store in Collingwood, but it was almost $200 cheaper for the same coffee table over the net.

Problem being, when it arrived the marble top was cracked.  I don't usually rate customer service if all things have gone as per schedule, I rate it when something goes awry.  In this case Life Interiors were awesome!  No questions asked, the replacement top was couriered the following day and they couldn't apologise enough for the inconvenience.

In case you're interested here is my gorgeous new coffee table:

We finally have movement at the land!

It looks like we may settle and start building in June after all.  After visiting the land over the weekend we seem to have a street light, some nearly laid roads and what looks like the start of a cross over.

I never thought I would be so excited to see so little!

Another item I have fallen in love with, is Eco Fireplaces, in particular the Blubox Fireplaces. I love the fact that I don't need to have them ducted, or any electricity etc to have the effect of a gorgeous open fire.  And even better they are much cheaper than your Jetmaster equivalent.

I can also move it to anywhere I like!  This will be on the must have list!

Now that our loan has been approved - I am able to start purchasing off my wish list with Hubby's approval.

Here are some of my have to haves where cushions are concerned!

Today we got unconditional approval for our loan.  I was thinking it might be more tricky as I am a stay at home Mum at the moment.  So needless to say I am very pleased.  Hubby has now officially authorised me to purchase.......

Why we chose BH Developments.......

I wanted to fill you all in on why we chose BH Developments to build our new home.

Little did we realise when we first bought our beautiful sloping block that it would be so difficult to find a builder (within our budget) to build on.  Who knew a 3.5 metre fall across a 650m2 block was such an issue?  Certainly wasn't us....

We just assumed we would find a lovely design with one of the big volume builders and build our dream house.  This was not to be.  Any of the big builders only use slabs to build foundations and that meant our house would be sitting in a hole - with huge retaining walls all the way around us!

I then started to research sloping block specialists and found that although the homes were beautiful - most were so expensive compared with the big volume builders.

But then, when I had almost given up (and thought we just might have to live in a mushroom house) through a Google search I found the most wonderful thing!  An Elevated Display Village at Laurimar in Doreen.  All the houses displayed are built on sloping blocks, and by builders who are not looking for a $1M for the privilige.

This is where we first saw BH Developments.  We instantly fell in love with their display home.  The quality was awesome and it just looked so different compared with all the other houses we had seen.  It had also won Best Display Home (2010) MBAV ($300 - $350K)

At first we were sceptical - we knew the display home was beautiful - but too small for our needs, so it would have to cost a fortune to get what we wanted.  After talking to Troy (The Sales Manager) he gave us a few ideas and said he would be happy to customise a plan for us and quote the job.

To our utter pleasure - when Troy came back with the construction proposal it was within our budget and had most (if not all) of all the luxury inclusions what we really wanted.

To date they have been awesome and we are really looking forward to building with them.

If anyone has a sloping block - I suggest you take a look at the Elevated Display Village at Laurimar. It saved our lives, so to speak!  Even if you have a flat block take a look - they really made a refreshing change to all the other homes we saw.

A little shopping.......

I have embraced all things modern!  For those of you that know me well - you might find this relatively strange, considering I previously owned a period home.

However I have completely fallen in love with the modern look.  Absolutely any furniture designed by Ray and Charles Eames has become my fav.  I have devoured my 'Home Beautiful' from cover to cover and come up with a list of must haves for the new house.

First purchase, was this wonderful white leather Barcelona Chair and Ottoman.  I adore it and can't wait to read my first book lounging on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Secondly, I just had to have this Organic Chair in Green designed by Eames and Saarinen.

I have decided to go for a monchromatic internal colour scheme accentuated with Green, Yellow and Chrome.

I recently found a site which has helped me discover my inner Interior Designer and unleashed my love for all things considered 'Vintage Modern'.

If you are having trouble deciphering your individual style when it comes to decorating - you have to give it a go it's awesome!

And so it begins........

This is my first attempt at blogging.  I really wanted to document my building experience so I could reflect and also keep friends and family informed of our progress.

It all started in early 2010 when my husband and I decided our little single front house in inner Melbourne just wasn't going to suffice for our growing family.  After looking at both established homes and land, we decided the only way to get exactly what we wanted was to build a home for our expanding family.

We sold our house and bought the land at auction in June 2010.  Since then, we have been to numerous volume builders (including Porter Davis and Boutique) and have finally settled on a smaller builder - BH Developments.

I am so excited about the whole process, I have already started buying furniture to decorate my new home; Hubby thinks this is slightly crazy as we are still awaiting settlement on our land!

Anyway... I know I have enjoyed the blogs of my fellow 'Home One Forumites', so heres hoping someone enjoys mine also!
